2-man 8-ball

4-man 8-ball

Cards required – Ace -10 of all 4 suits and 8 of clubs (21 cards)

Objective – Win tricks to earn points, first team to 30 points wins game. Points are earned by winning tricks. The team who bids receives 2 points per trick bid and 1 point per additional. If a team does not catch at least the number of tricks bid (goes set), they receive a -4 plus -1 for each set trick for points on that hand. Opponents receives 1 point per trick caught. If a team bids 5 tricks, they receive a bonus of 2 additional points for a total of 12 points for that hand. If a person bids 5 alone, he receives a bonus of 3 additional points for a total of 15 points for that hand. The opponent must bid 5 in order for you to bid 5 alone.

Play is similar to Euchre, both jacks of the trump color are bowers (highest cards of the suit). The 8 of clubs is always the top trump card followed by both bowers then Ace, King, Queen, Ten of trump. The 8 of clubs is a wild card and can be played at any time during the hand. You can play the 8 of clubs instead of following suit. If anyone leads the 8 of clubs, everyone must follow suit by playing trump if possible.

Determine the dealer by dealing cards face up to all players, first one to receive a jack wins the first deal. Rotate dealing clockwise for the remainder of the game.

Deal out 5 cards to each player in two rounds (Euchre style). With 1 card remaining, flip card face up.

The person to the left of the dealer has the first option of bidding or passing. He can bid between 3 and 5 of the flipped card suit or between 4 and 5 of another suit. The other players have the option of over bidding. If a player bids the suit of the flipped card, the dealer receives the flipped card and discards one loser. If a player bids 4 or 5 of another suit, dealer turns the card face down.  If all four players pass, the card is turned down. All players have the options of bidding between 3 and 5 of any suit or passing. If the bid goes to the dealer with everyone passing the dealer must bid at least 3 of any suit.

Once trump and bid are determined, play begins with person to the left of the dealer leading. The others follow suit (or plays 8 of clubs) Winner of the 4 cards takes the trick and leads the next card. After the five tricks are won, points are adding to the score card. (example: bid 3 and catch 4 yields 7 points and the opponents get 1 point)

If the 8 of clubs is flipped, then the players bid between 3 and 5 of any suit. All players can continue bidding and changing suits until bid is determined. The player that wins the bid can pick up the 8 and discard one.

Deal out 6 cards to each player in pairs of two (3 rounds) to all three players. With 3 cards remaining, flip top card over. The person to the left of the dealer has the first option of bidding or passing. He can bid between 3 and 5 of the flipped card suit or between 4 and 5 of another suit. The other players have the option of over bidding. If a player bids the suit of the flipped card, the dealer receives the flipped card and discards two losers and others discard one. If another suit is called the dealer turns the flipped card face down and players only discard one. If all three players pass, the next card is flipped over and the bid begins again. If the last card is flipped over and everyone passes, the card is flipped over. All players have the options of bidding between 3 and 5 of any suit or passing. If the bid goes to the dealer with everyone passing the dealer must bid at least 3. If the 8 of clubs is flipped all players can continue bidding up to 6 and changing suits until bid is determined. The winning bidder receives the 8 of clubs. Once a person a passes, he is not allowed to bid until another card is flipped.

2-man 8-ball

Cards required – Ace-10 of all 4 suits and 8 of clubs (21 cards)

Objective – Win tricks to earn points, first person to 30 points wins game. Points are earned by winning tricks. The person who bids receives 2 points per trick bid and 1 point per additional. Determine the dealer by dealing cards face up to both players, first one to receive a jack wins the first deal. Alternate dealing for the remainder of the game.

Deal out 6 cards to each player in pairs of two (3 rounds) to opponent, “bot” (ghost player), and dealer. With 3 cards remaining, flip top card over.

The opponent (not dealer) has the first option of bidding or passing. He must bid between 3 and 5 tricks, and then the dealer can overbid. Bidding goes back and forth until one person passes. The person who bids highest can pick up the flip card and discard 2 loser cards (keeping 5 cards) The other person discards cards and picks up the other hidden cards that have not been flipped (never exceeding 5 cards in hand at a time and keeping 5 cards). If both pass, turn the flip card face down and flip over the second card. Repeat the bidding options. If both pass, turn over the last card and repeat bidding options except both players can bid between 2 and 5 tricks. If both pass for the 3rd time, both players discard one loser and the bot leads to determine trump. Players are just playing for one point per trick for that hand. If the 8 of clubs flips, then bidding can proceed up to a 6 bid and earn the 15 points for the hand. Both players can continue bidding and changing suits until one player passes. The highest bidder gets to pick up the 8 of clubs.

Once trump and bid are determined, play begins with opponent leading. The dealer follows suit (or plays 8 of clubs) and then the “bot” flips one of his cards. Winner of the 3 cards takes the trick and leads the next card. The “bot” always plays last or leads (if winning previous hand). After the five tricks are won, points are adding to the score card. Bots tricks are not recorded. Example 1: bid 3 and catch 4 yields 7 points and the opponent gets 1 point if he caught the remaining trick. Example 2: bid 3 and catch 3 yields 6 points and opponent catches one trick for 1 point and the point catches a trick.)
