Sclera-
Cornea-
Conjunctiva- transparent, vascular, modified epithelium covering the anterior sclera and lining the eyelids.
EXTRINSIC EYE MUSCLES:
Superior rectus-
Inferior rectus-
Medial rectus-
Lateral rectus-
Superior oblique-
Inferior oblique-
Superior levator palpebrae- moves the upper eyelid.
LACRIMAL APPARATUS:
Lacrimal gland-
Lacrimal punctum (superior and inferior)-
Lacrimal duct (superior and inferior)-
Lacrimal sac-
Nasolacrimal duct-
Lacrimal caruncle-
OTHER IMPORTANT STRUCTURES:
Choroid- middle, vascular layer
of the eye wall.
Iris- pigmented smooth muscle sphincter.
Pupil- "hole" in the center of the iris.
Lens- transparent structure posterior to the pupil and iris.
Ciliary body- includes ciliary processes (from
which aqueous humor filters) and the ciliary muscle
(regulates changes in lens shape during
accomadotion).
Suspensory ligaments-
Anterior cavity- contains aqueous humor; the space between the lens and cornea.
Anterior chamber- between the iris and cornea.
Posterior chamber- between the lens and the iris.
Canal of Schlemm- venous sinus at the junction of the cornea and sclera; where aqueous humor drains from the anterior chamber back into the blood.
Posterior cavity- space between
the lens and the retina; contains vitreous humor.
Retina- inner, nervous layer of the eye wall; contains the rods
and cones.
Macula lutea- yellow spot in the center of the retina.
Fovea centralis- cup-like depression in the center of the retina;
cones only.
Optic disc- or "blind spot"; portion of the retina that
lacks rods and cones.
Optic nerve (II)-
Optic chiasma-
Optic tract-
Optic radiations- neurons that extend from the thalamus to the
occipital lobe of the cerebral cortex (visual area).
COW EYE (Top)
Be able to identify the following structures of the cow eye:
1. extrinsic eye muscles (in general)-
2. adipose tissue-
3. optic nerve-
4. conjunctiva-
5. sclera-
6. cornea-
7. lens-
8. ciliary body-
9. iris-
10. vitreous humor-
11. retina-
12. optic disc-
13. choroid-
14. tapetum lucidum-
