Tentative Course Schedule

TEXTBOOK READING ASSIGNMENTS: The following schedule includes reading assignments. Note the chapter numbers listed (for example, Ch. 1 Jan. 12). You are expected to have read that chapter by class time Jan. 12. 

STORY ASSIGNMENTS, WORKBOOK EXERCISES, IV LEADER ASSIGNMENTS: The following schedule includes story, workbook and IV Leader assignments, including dates for team editing/discussion and deadlines.

News story assignments will not be accepted late for a grade. Newspapers cannot print (and broadcast stations cannot air) stories that come in after the presses start to roll (or after the broadcast).  

Changes to the schedule and additional assignments may be made based on news events or the availability of speakers. IVCC stories may be assigned instead of workbook stories if guest news makers are available.

23 Tuesday, April 4 MIMIC story due by 4 p.m. Begin discussion of press law, libel. (Ch. 22, 23). Last day to turn in meeting story. Guest interview: Julie Sherbeyn

24 Thursday, April 6 Wellness story due by 4 p.m.  IV Leader layout
25 Tuesday, April 11 Media Law Test. Last day for student withdrawal.
Begin discussion of crime reporting (Ch. 13, 14). ASSIGN STORY #1, page 118. 
26 Thursday, April 13 Faculty Development Day; no classes.

  Friday, April 14 Spring break for staff; college closed.
27 Tuesday, April 18 Discuss crime reporting. Assign Story #1, p. 118 . Work in groups.

Assignment: Read Appendix instructions on Crisis Coverage simulation exercise
29 Tuesday, April 25 Crisis coverage exercise. Bring book and CD to class. Write story for peer editing for next class.
