Unless indicated otherwise, assignments are due by 10:00 p.m. on the due dates.
1. Online Orientation
Due Date: Wednesday, January 11
- Online Orientation (Click the link to access the online orientation home page.)

To complete the Orientation Quiz (below), you will need to be familiar with the information on the Online Orientation pages. The Orientation Quiz is not due until Friday, January 13, but it would be a good idea to begin the course by reading the Online Orientation (and you may submit the quiz before the due date).
2. Introductory Paragraph

- Orientation Quiz (Click the link to access the quiz.)
Important: Your login for the quiz is your seven-digit IVCC student ID number, which should appear on your class schedule and your college ID card. In your private conference area of our class WebBoard, I will post a message that includes your student ID number.
Please see the bottom of this page for information about the quiz.
This quiz covers some of the material presented as part of the Online Orientation. As with all quizzes and exercises in the course, you may use any resources available, except for someone else or someone else's quiz, to complete the Orientation Quiz. (This quiz is a graded assignment.)
Please note that the due date and time is set when the quiz is posted online. You will not be able to submit the quiz after the due date and time.

Maya Angelou's "Graduation" is on pages 483 to 490 of the textbook and will be the subject of your Diagnostic Essay.
Although the due date is Tuesday, January 17, you will need to read "Graduation" before you write your essay on it. Your essay is also due Tuesday, January 17, so you should try to finish reading "Graduation" at least a few days before your essay is due.

The Diagnostic Essay is the final assignment for this unit.
Important Information about the Orientation Quiz
Use your seven-digit student ID number, with no spaces and no hyphens, to access the online quiz. If you registered for the course a few days before the start date, you may not be able to access the quiz with your student ID number. If this is the case, please contact me, and I will give you an alternative password to use to access the quiz.
If you enter your student ID number, click "Submit," and see an error message with two boxes (one for the "Test ID" and one for "User ID"), click the "Back" button of your web browser and try entering your student ID number again. Contact me if you still have trouble.
There is no limit to the number of times you may access the quiz, but you may submit your responses only once. You will not be able to submit answers to the quiz after the due date and time.
After submitting your responses to the quiz, you will see your score but will not see your responses and the correct responses. However, with all quizzes and exercises in the course, you will be able to see your responses and the correct responses beginning one hour after the time when the quiz is due. To review your answers, just wait until at least one hour after the assignment is due, click the link to the assignment, enter your student ID number, and click "Review Your Score" (instead of "Submit").
You will need to review some of the Online Orientation web pages as you answer the quiz questions. One way to do this is by having both the quiz and the Online Orientation web pages open at the same time. Just follow the instructions below:
- Open your web browser.
- Press [Ctrl N] to open a new web browser window.
- Use one web browser window to access the Online Orientation web pages.
- Use the other web browser window to access the quiz.
- Move between one web browser screen and the other by minimizing and maximizing the screens.
- Minimize the screen by left mouse-clicking on the "Minimize" button in the upper left of your web browser. This will cause the web browser to rest on bar on the bottom of your screen.
- Maximize the screen by left mouse-clicking on the browser button that is resting on the bar on the bottom of your screen.
You might also be able to print the quiz, go to the Online Orientation web pages, find the answers, and then return to the quiz to fill in the answers. However, security features of Test Pilot might prevent you from printing the quiz.
Questions?
Of course, just ask if you have any questions about taking the Orientation Quiz or about other assignments for this unit!
