The final exam pre-test and the final exam should be learning experiences in themselves, so while we have covered most of the material on the pre-test and exam already, mainly in the form of Test Pilot exercises, you will most likely see material on the pre-test and the final exam that you were not aware of. Use the information on the pre-test to help you prepare for and complete the final exam, and please ask questions in WebBoard so that I can help you do well on the final exam.

In addition to the pre-test, the resources linked below should help you with the exam:

The exercises and practice quizzes present the same kind of material that appears on the Final Exam.

Final course grades must be recorded shortly after the exam is due, so make sure to submit the final exam by the due date.

The Final Exam is due by 10:00 p.m. on the due date.

1. Final Exam Pre-Test

No due date: independent study

The pre-test is not graded, but it's good practice for the final exam. The pre-test presents the same types of problems that you will see on the final exam and is an excellent way for you to prepare for the exam. If you take the pre-test seriously, it should help you do well on the final exam.

You should print and take the pre-test before looking at the answers to the pre-test, which are linked below.

For the pre-test and the final exam, you may use any resources that you like, including the textbook, other English style or grammar books, any course Web pages, answers to Test Pilot exercises, and any other resources on writing. For the final exam, you may also use the pre-test and its answers. The course Writing Resources web pages are good resources you can use for the pre-test and the final exam.

Take the pre-test seriously, doing your best to come up with the answers before reviewing the correct answers linked below. This is the best way to prepare for the final exam because it helps you identify the information you know well and the information that you may need to study more carefully.

Please post questions about the pre-test in WebBoard.

2. Answers to the Final Exam Pre-Test

No due date: independent study

The pre-test is not graded, but you can figure the grade you would receive if it were graded, giving yourself a good idea of how well prepared you are for the final exam. If the pre-test were graded, each problem on the pre-test would be worth four points, so you can compare your responses to the correct answers to see what grade you would receive.

Please note that you should ask questions in WebBoard about the problems and answers on the pre-test if anything is unclear to you. Doing so should help you with the final exam. The pre-test and final exam are based mainly on the information on the Writing Resources web pages and the material covered on Test Pilot exercises earlier in the semester. However, the tests should be learning experiences in themselves, so don't be surprised if you learn something new when you read the pre-test answers.

3. The Final Exam

Due Date: Tuesday, May 9

Important: The Final Exam will be posted in WebBoard on Tuesday, May 2.

To take the final exam, you will need to download the file in WebBoard, save it to your computer, fill in the answers, and then post your completed final exam in your private conference area of WebBoard.

Remember two important web pages that you can use for the exam: What to Study for the Final Exam and Final Exam Tips.

The answers to Test Pilot exercises can help you most with the final exam, and, for the final exam, you may use any available resources, including the pre-test answers and the answers to the Test Pilot exercise. To review answers to a Test Pilot exercise, just access the assignment page where an exercise is linked, click the link, type in your Social Security number, and click "Review your Score." (Do not click "Request.") You may use any available resources, but make sure to do your own work.

Important: Evidence of cheating on the final exam could result in a "0" on the final exam or even a failing grade in the course. Evidence of cheating includes "agreement in error," which would occur if two people in the class had many of the same wrong answers on the exam and if the incorrect answers on one exam were identical to the incorrect answers on another exam (thus "agreement in error"). Of course, the entire exam should reflect your own work.

Important: Please note that the Answers to the Final Exam Pre-Test provide you with most of the answers for the problems on the final exam. For example, you must identify errors and stylistic weaknesses in two paragraphs on the final exam. All of the possible errors and stylistic weaknesses in the paragraphs on the final exam are identified on the pre-test. Use the answers to the pre-test to help you with the final exam!

This is also important. If you post your completed final exam in a public conference area, everyone in the class will be able to access your final exam answers, which would not be good. Please make sure to post your completed final exam in your private conference area of WebBoard.

Please post questions about the final exam in WebBoard.

Questions?

Of course, just ask if you have any questions about the assignments on this page.
