Advisement
Illinois Valley Community College Counselors offer a variety of resources to assist students in selecting courses and career planning appropriate for their interests, abilities, and goals. Counselors provide assistance to help students decide on courses, college major, and career. Assistance is also given for those seeking help with academic and personal problems.
Beginning with admission to the college and continuing each semester, students consult a Counselor to assist them in establishing and pursuing educational and career goals and in planning course schedules or classes for each academic term.
Placement tests are required in reading, English and math before enrolling in any English or Math course and for full-time students (12 or more credit hours). Scores are interpreted by the counselor and if required, course remediation is required before enrolling in an English or a math course.
