The grading of the course will fall into 6 categories:
Over the course of the semester, you and your lab partner will select parts to build a PC. Each week, you will decide on a new piece based on the week's discussion topic. Points will be assigned for every week's selection. Near the end of the semester, you will present your project to the class. There is no grade for the presentation, but failure to present will result in a course grade of F.
This is where you will do hands-on work with PCs, taking them apart, putting them back together, and learning how the pieces work together.
Your LABSIM CD contains software to simulate working on PCs. This is useful because it allows you to get a feel for working with types of hardware other than your lab PC. You may install the software on your lab PC if you like, but each lab partner must do her/his own work.
True/False, Multiple Choice, Matching, and Short Answer questions based on the week's discussion topic.
Each week's work shall be worth approximately 100 points.
Based on the Short Answer questions AND your lab work. It shall be worth 200 points.
The first part Final exam shall also be based on the Short Answer questions AND your lab work. It shall be worth 200 points.
TENTATIVE: Assuming all goes well and we get the grant I anticipate, I will pick the best PC project from each section and order the parts. You will have a list of the parts prior to the final exam so you can find documentation. The second part of the final exam shall be assembling the new PC from individual pieces, using only the documentation you find. This PC will then be used to instruct future sections of the course using contemporary hardware.
The second part of the final exam shall be worth 200 points.
This schedule is tentative and subject to change.
