Teen Mother Activity

A special event designed to create interest in engineering technology careers was presented to teen mothers in the IVCC district in collaboration with the Starved Rock Associates for Vocational and Technical Education (SRAVTE) in spring 2009.  A hands-on exercise in which the young women created toys for their children was the highlight of the event.

Dorene Perez, Program Coordinator of CAE/CAD shares her career story (at left) and assists
a group in designing their toys (at right).

Jim Gibson, Program Coordinator of Electronics, demonstrates the construction of the "man on a string" and explains the principles of friction and traction.

Participants begin
constructing the
"man on a string" toy.

Participants test the tops
they made.
