bullet  Poisson d'avril Fish Market and Bake Sale.  8AM-1PM,
Tuesday, April 1, 2008, Outside the Cafeteria.
- Fish Market - Share in the French April Fool tradition of Poisson fish d'avril , learn what it means to sneak a fish onto a friend's back. With every Bakery purchase, receive your own catch of fish to "distribute".
-  Bake Sale - Enjoy some wonderful francophile treats or try some gruesome sounding/looking [although delicious] April Fool treats. This will be a memorable bake sale. 8-)

Join WLO members and Professor Anna Marie Pietrolonardo for a review of the Lingua Franca concept of "international" communication followed by a discussion of implications for the future. From 3:00 to 4:15 pm, Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in A300. Everyone is welcome. No fee; donations to WLO gratefully accepted.
 
bulletAnnual Meeting of World Language Association and Zeta of Illinois Chapter, Sigma Delta Mu - National Spanish Honor Society. Monday, April 28, 2008, from 11:00 am to 12 noon, in C316. Includes installation of 2008-2009 WLO Officers, Initiation of Honor Students to IVCC's Zeta of Illinois Chapter of Sigma Delta Mu  and a Celebratory Luncheon. Advance reservations required. Guests are welcome. There is a $5.00 fee payable in advance*  to help defray the cost of the luncheon.

*Students who have Monday classes from 11 am to 12 noon and need to be on the "Please Excuse..." List to Faculty must complete their reservation by Thursday, April 10, 2008, so IVCC Faculty can be notified two weeks in advance of the event.

Join WLO Vice President Mike Holland for an enlightening presentation followed by group discussion. From 3:00 to 4:15 pm, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in A300. Everyone is welcome. No fee; donations to WLO gratefully accepted.

Join Professor Pietrolonardo for a review of Spanish in preparation for final exams. Students from all sections of SPN-1002 and SPN-2002 are encouraged to attend. From 11:00 am to 12 noon, Thursday, May 1, 2008 in C316.
 
bulletSadly, Cinco de mayo, May 5, 2008, is during Spring Exam Week at IVCC this year. We cannot divert students from academic priorities to put on such a large event. Instead, WLO offers the entire month of April as World Languages Month. Video about the holiday as it is celebrated in Mexico, plus
Día de los Muertos student activities including crafting <calaveras> -
clay skeletons and memorial poems to honor the memory of loved ones.
All members of the IVCC community are invited to join us in making clay <calavera> skeletons and writing memorial poems.

Students from IVCC Spanish classes will construct an ofrenda, or family altar, according to the Hispanic tradition.
