| Annual Meeting of
World Language Association and Zeta of Illinois Chapter, Sigma Delta Mu -
National Spanish Honor Society. Monday, April 28, 2008, from 11:00 am to 12
noon, in C316. Includes installation of 2008-2009 WLO
Officers, Initiation of Honor Students to IVCC's Zeta of Illinois Chapter of Sigma Delta Mu and a
Celebratory Luncheon. Advance reservations required. Guests are welcome. There
is a $5.00 fee payable in advance* to help defray the cost of the luncheon. *Students who have Monday classes from 11 am to 12 noon and need to be on the "Please Excuse..." | Sadly, Cinco de mayo, May 5, 2008, is during Spring Exam Week at IVCC this
year. We cannot divert students from academic priorities to put on such a
large event. Instead, WLO offers the entire month of April as World Languages
Month. Still, if you really pine for a Cinco de mayo fiesta, here's a link to

IVCC Fireplace Lounge B216 Monday, October 29, 2007, 6-7:50 PM Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 12:30-1:45 PM Video about the holiday as it is celebrated in Mexico, plus Día de los Muertos student activities including crafting <calaveras> - clay skeletons and memorial poems to honor the memory of loved ones. All members of the IVCC community are invited to join us in making clay <calavera> skeletons and writing memorial poems. Students from IVCC Spanish classes will construct an ofrenda, or family altar, according to the Hispanic tradition. |
