For this paper, your thesis should contain both the descriptive title of
the learning style you will be illustrating and
the character whose information you will use to illustrate that
general term, as well as the title and author of the novel in which the
character lives. Your organization for this paper will likely
follow
the suggested approach given by McWhorter in your text, and you should certainly
quote from the text or the novel as you illustrate your chosen learning style
and present your examples of the character's learning style, citing these sources using MLA style.
The first
seven chapters of McWhorter will probably be a good refresher about how,
more specifically, you might go through the writing process for this
paper. Likewise, following
along with the revision flow charts from the text as you begin refining
you essay will
likely improve its quality. You may also have your essay read by a
reader in the Writing Center on campus, but if you do
so, make sure you bring in a copy of this assignment sheet with your draft
and remember that the readers in the Center may require a 48-hour turn around time, so plan
ahead. Having your paper at the Writing Center is not a valid excuse for
attempting to turn it in late.
The
main difficulties you may have in this paper will be pulling examples from
the text to support your points and paraphrasing them or citing them
correctly within the MLA format in your paper.
Format: This essay
should be double-spaced, laser-printed, carefully edited and proofread,
and stapled before you turn it in. You should have a heading with your
name, my name, the course title and section number, and date on it. You
must give the paper number and title a line of its own, and your last name
and the page number should appear at the top right of each page. This paper should be two to three pages in length with one-inch
margins, not including the Work or Works Cited page.
Check your syllabus for the
paper's due date, remembering that it will be due in advance of that
date for Peer Review.
