| Effective
Web Page Design |
The designs
you use for your web pages should be unique and should reflect who you are. However, there
are guidelines that can help you come up with effective designs and practices for your web
pages. The links from this page present a few suggestions for effective web page design.
(Please note that IVCC has specific
design requirements for official college web pages, which include
just about all web pages except faculty and student organization
pages.)
The
Bad
Avoid common mistakes of beginning
web designers and web-design practices that are just plain bad.
The
Good
Make web pages that are
well-designed, clear, easy to navigate, and just plain good.
Evaluation
of an Online Course
(1) Look through some of the courses linked below and
find one that you would like to evaluate. Or you can locate
an online course on your own to evaluate. More links to online courses can be found
at Illinois Virtual
Campus and IPIC (Illinois Prairie
Internet Consortium). In addition, the World
Lecture Hall lists courses that are completely online and
those that use material on the web to support on-campus classes.
(2) Evaluate the
online course using the evaluation questions linked below. Be
prepared to present a five-minute summary of your findings.
(3) Post a summary
of your findings in WebBoard:
(A) Enter the
discussion area of WebBoard
for Online Course Evaluations;
(B) At the top of
your message space, type the title of the course you evaluated and
post a link to the home page of the course; and
(C) Write
a brief summary of what you like about the design of the course
and what you think could be improved.
