Using FrontPage 2000

Accessing Your Page
The folder containing your web page is located on the web server.  You can access your folder to create or edit pages either from school or home.  To access your folder, you will need your username and password given to you by the Webmaster.  Then follow these steps to access the folder that contains your home page:

1. Start Front Page (using the Start Menu, programs, FrontPage 2000).

2. Open Web by using the File menu or the Open Tool.

5.  To open the page you wish to edit, use File Open, the Folder Icon or the Folder List Button.  To create a new page, start with the blank new page.

6.  Have Fun!

Creating a Link
To create a link in FrontPage, use the Insert Menu and Hyperlink Option or the Hyperlink Tool.   If you know the URL you can type it in the URL box in the hyperlink dialogue box.  If you don't know the URL, search for it using the browser. Select the tool highlighted below in the blue box to navigate in the browser.

Making a Table
Create a table using the Table Menu, Insert Option and Table Option.  In the table dialogue box, choose the number of  rows and columns. The Toolbar also has a table option in which you can click and drag the mouse pointer over the number of rows and columns the table will include.  Tables are very useful for organizing text and graphical information on the same line.  It is also possible to put tables within tables to help in page layout.

Inserting Word Documents
In Word, use the File Menu and Save as Web Page Option to save the document.  In FrontPage, use the File Menu and Import Option, and then select File (for one document) or Folder (containing one or more documents) and click on the ok button.

Saving and Naming Files
The basics of saving a FrontPage file include giving the file a name and giving the page a name.  The first step is to give the file a name in the save dialogue box.  Note: The file name will become part of the URL, so it cannot include spaces.  The page title, the name that appears in the browser title bar, can be changed by using the change button next to the page title text box.

One final thought about saving files.  As you start creating pages, you will want to get in the habit of making folders.  To create a folder in the folder view, use the File Menu, New Option and Folder Option.  To create a folder in the save dialogue box, use the New Folder Tool .
