(2) RiversProject High School and Middle School Workshop: February 7, 2014, 9:00 am at IVCC
La Salle-Peru Township High School, one instructors and 9 students, as well as twenty middle school students as part of the IVCC Career Day attended the March 23, 2012 RiversProject workshop. IVCC faculty members Dr Matt Johll - chemistry, Mr. Keith King and Ms. Lee Ann Johnson - Biology, and Mr.Jeff Fesperman - meteorological science, presented in the morning lecture and afternoon laboratory sessions. The afternoon session featured all of the students performing various water quality tests of their own water samples in addition to fecal coliform tests and macroinvertebrate identification.
CF Industries of Peru and Deerfield, Illinois is a major contributor to IVCC RiversProject activities. The IVCC Technology Program was also a contributor to the workshop.
The RiversProject Workshop covers the following National Science Education Standards, 1996: Content Standards: Grades 5-8 - Content Standard A: Science as Inquiry. Content Standard B: Physical Science, properties and changes of properties in matter. Content Standard F: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives, science and technology in society. Content Standards: Grades 9-12 - Content Standard A: Science as inquiry. Content Standard B: Physical Science, structure and properties of matter, chemical reactions. Content Standard F: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives, science and technology in local, national, and global challenges.
